Charlton Howard (aka The Kid LAROI) and our experience of sharing his journey to the ‘now’ infamous The Kid LAROI, has been nothing but phenomenal and inspiring.

In 2017, a young Charlton Howard came into The Fact Tree with his brother, Austin, and we were introduced to these two young dynamic brothers full of great energy and charisma. It wasn’t long before we were calling him “Roi”, and it was clear how much he loved being back in the Waterloo community.

As The Fact Tree got to know The Kid LAROI, he was a humble achiever that showed a natural leadership, actively contributing to the many issues that Waterloo was facing and advocating for what young people needed. It was clear he was popular with his peers, and he always showed loyalty, respect and kindness to those he interacted with.

Most of all, it was obvious that The Kid LAROI’s talent, enthusiasm and dedication to his music was going to take him places. Sneaking into venues to get to the headlining artist in a bid to showcase his music, spending countless hours in the studio, often sacrificing going on fun excursions with friends, so he could work on his music, paved the way for his success ahead.

The ‘Dream Big Factory’ in Alexandria was a 24/7 studio for artists. Roi spent much of his time here, meeting producers and engineers who recognised his talent and offered him guidance. Behind him was always his family to give endless support and encouragement to follow his dreams.

These dreams became reality in 2019 at the age of fifteen, when Roi moved to L.A and was signed to Columbia Records. The Fact Tree still remembers how proud we all were when we heard this news, and how much he deserved this opportunity after all his hard work.

Even with all the whirlwind success he’s had, The Kid LAROI  hasn’t forgotten Waterloo and his community. His generosity has spread far and wide.

The Kid LAROI’s return to Waterloo in May 2022 was a once in a lifetime experience for so many of our young people. From the shoes and clothes he gifted to the young people, to the overwhelming donation he gave to The Fact Tree. The Kid LAROI didn’t stop there. He went on to organize an unforgettable concert experience for our young people. Not only did he invite several of the them backstage, he gave an upcoming young artist, Lil Arts, from the community a chance to open his show and perform to a sold out arena.

The Kid LAROI has shown our young people that hard work and belief in yourself can lead them to amazing life experiences. The Kid LAROI and his family’s spirit of generosity has really moved us here at The Fact Tree.
